High Tech, Low Life
Details
Zhou “Zola” Shuguang and Zhang “Tiger Temple” are two of China’s first renegade citizen reporters. Armed with laptops, cell phones, and digital cameras they develop skills as independent one-man news stations while learning to navigate China’s evolving censorship regulations and avoiding the risk of political persecution.
From the perspective of vastly different generations, Zola and Tiger Temple must both reconcile an evolving sense of individualism, social responsibility and personal sacrifice. Restructuring their place in society as they travel the country chronicling underreported news and social issues stories, High Tech, Low Life explores ways story-telling has transformed in the digital age and consequently how people have transformed their life and the lives of those around them. Directed by Stephen Maing. USA/China, 2012 87 min
