11th Docker Switzerland User Group Meetup

we are happy to announce the 11th Docker Switzerland User Group meetup to be held on the 26th of October, in Bern.

Abstracts:

1. Die Mobiliar praktiziert im Rahmen ihrer Digitalisierungsstrategie ein duales Vorgehen: Das Unternehmen (Mutterschiff) wird modernisiert und gleichzeitig testet man neuartige Geschäftspotenziale in unabhängigen Projekte/Startups (sogenannte Schnellboote). In dieser Case study zeigen wir - anhand eines konkreten Beispiels – wie Docker eine erfolgreiche Zusammenarbeit mit der Unternehmensentwicklung, externen Entwicklungspartnern und dem klassischen IT Betrieb ermöglicht.

2. Kubernetes and Docker Swarm are two of the commonly used tools to deploy containers inside a cluster. Both are created as tools that can be used to manage a clusters of multiple instances to run containers. However, they differ greatly in their approach. In this talk I'll show the differences and where they probably lack in features.

3. The scaling of Docker usage from single containers towards a container orchestration solution like Kubernetes is often challenging in enterprise environments. Establishing a new platform is often strongly regulated and proved a hurdle to rapid adoption. Our approach was to build our Docker orchestration on top of the already existing and established OpenStack-based IaaS infrastructure. We’ll show how we automated the creation of Kubernetes Clusters and the challenges and culprits are with a focus on the boundaries like load balancing, persistent storage and monitoring.
