Docker Meetup with Joyent at New Relic

Details
We are excited to announce the next Docker SF meetup with Joyent at New Relic! Come hear from Bryan Cantrill (https://twitter.com/bcantrill) and Jérôme Petazzoni (https://twitter.com/jpetazzo) for what promises to be an action-packed evening!
AGENDA
6:00 Arrival/Social/F&B - sponsored by Docker and Joyent
6:35 Intro by New Relic
6:40 Bryan Cantrill: Virtualizing the Docker Remote API with Triton
The Docker API and imaging tools are the killer features (https://www.joyent.com/blog/dockers-killer-feature) Docker adds to Linux Containers (LXC) (https://docs.docker.com/faq/#what-does-docker-add-to-just-plain-lxc) and the introduction of pluggable execution drivers in early 2014 (https://blog.docker.com/2014/03/docker-0-9-introducing-execution-drivers-and-libcontainer/) opened the door to using those features with other container virtualization technologies and on other operating systems. Learn how Joyent’s Triton elastic container service leverages the Docker remote API to run Docker containers securely on bare metal, with software-defined networking. See how Triton simplifies container deployments in production and gives you the ability to seamlessly scale.
7:10 Jérôme Petazzoni: Orchestration for the Rest of Us
Orchestration, resource scheduling ... What does that mean? Is this only relevant for datacenters with thousands of nodes? Should I care about Mesos,Kubernetes, Swarm, when all I have is a handful of virtual machines? The motto of public cloud IAAS is "pay for what you use," so in theory,if I deploy my apps there, I'm already getting the best "resource utilization"aka "bang for my buck," right? In this talk, we will answer those questions, and a few more. We will define orchestration, scheduling, and others, in layman's terms, and we will even tickle the demo gods by deploying small clusters and showing what it's like to use a scheduler to run applications there.
7:40 Fireside Chat with Bryan and Jérôme
8:15 Wrap-up
About the Speakers
Bryan Cantrill (https://twitter.com/bcantrill), CTO at Joyent, where he oversees worldwide development of the SmartOS and SmartDataCenter platforms, and the Node.js platform. Prior to joining Joyent, Bryan served as a Distinguished Engineer at Sun Microsystems, where he spent over a decade working on system software, from the guts of the kernel to client-code on the browser. In particular, he co-designed and implemented DTrace, a facility for dynamic instrumentation of production systems.

Jérôme Petazzoni (https://twitter.com/jpetazzo) is a senior engineer at Docker, where he rotates between Ops, Support and Evangelist duties. In another life he built and operated Xen clouds when EC2 was just the name of a plane, developed a GIS to deploy fiber interconnects through the French subway, managed commando deployments of large-scale video streaming systems in bandwidth-constrained environments such as conference centers, and various other feats of technical wizardry. When annoyed, he threatens to replace things with a very small shell script.
