Why: Dues are for ordering members only.
The Doylestown Food Club (DFC) aims to bring local consumers and local producers together, creating a self-sustaining local food economy, in which producers take care of the soil, plants, and animals; and consumers nourish themselves and their families while supporting local growers and producers. We look for sustainable practices by expert farmers, ideally polycultural where that is possible; organic where that is possible; humane where that is possible; and nearby where that is possible. We strive to find the best products (sustainably, humanely, organically) raised by the best experts at the fairest price as near to our home as we can.
The club was founded in September, 2009 and is very much a work in progress. Many of us are interested in working toward forming a brick and mortar food co-op that will satisfy the unmet need of knowledgeable and caring local consumers to obtain year-round quality local food goods in one place at a fair price. If you have the vision, drive, and time to devote, consider joining our steering committee. The steering committee will be assembling for our first meeting on Thursday, 11/12/09 at 6:30 at the Goddard School. Be sure to RSVP below if you plan to attend. For great information and resources on co-ops, including financing information, go to http://www.foodcoop500.coop.
Membership on the Meetup site is free and provided by the club. Feel free to browse the site and follow our progress. However, only dues-paying DFC members can place orders. For more information about dues, check out the 10/25/09 weekly update document located under "Files." For more information about ordering, check out the ordering instructions from 10/29/09, also located under "Files". Many thanks to all of our members who have already contributed dues by check. Be sure your checks reflect only the balance of dues remaining if you have already contributed.
As of 10/29/09, please welcome two new and essential coordinators to our club:
Amy M. will be coordinating membership. If you have any questions concerning membership, she is a great resource. Our thanks to Amy for taking on this critical role.
Corinne and Matt will be taking over the Meetup website. They will be showing new members around the site, answering questions, and keeping the site up to date.
Amy, Corinne, and Matt: we all appreciate your efforts!
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
Steph
Per our discussion at our last meeting, we will be getting together again to hear about progress on the possible storefront co-op. We will be discussing a business plan, site, available assistance from other co-ops, and the like. Please send agenda items directly to Steph. Thanks to you all!
