Why Our Saviour's Community Services?

Our Saviour's Community Services was founded over 30 years ago in South Minneapolis for one simple reason--to meet the community need. Now running a shelter and housing programs and an English learning school, it is still doing so today. Whether you're a newly arrived immigrant or struggling with homelessness, it offers support at multiple levels to help build on strengths, connect with resources, and achieve goals.

OSCS takes a unique approach that is dignified, personalized, and holistic. At the shelter and the school, everybody knows your name and cares about your story. Unique aspects of the shelter include semi-private dormitory style bedrooms, a brand new health and wellness program with fitness room, and an upcoming art therapy program! The school cultivates a garden out back, brings in demonstrations of metro transit, and provides a nutrition class (just to name a few things).

Initially founded out of a church basement to meet the growing needs of the neighborhood, today OSCS is it's own separate nonprofit. It does not proselytize or require residents, staff, or volunteers to follow any particular spiritual or religious practice. It believes that all people, regardless of personal belief, deserve the same quality of service, as well as the same opportunity to help.
