Low Latency Code in Java 8 by Peter Lawrey

Details

Hi everyone!

We're very pleased to announce that JVM performance guru Peter Lawrey, CEO of Higher Frequency Trading Ltd will be flying in and giving a talk on 'Low Latency in Java 8', how the new features in Java 8 can be used in Low Latency coding and which old features have been optimised.

I'd like to re-iterate our call for people to give talks, we've had some folks reach out but could always use more, we will be able to host more great meetups!

Low Latency in Java 8

Special guest Peter Lawrey will drill into low latency in Java 8:

• How do Java 8's new features, Lambdas and Optional in particular, perform?

• Do they create garbage and is there anything you can do about it?

Peter Lawrey likes to inspire developers to improve the craftmanship of their solutions, engineer their systems for simplicity and performance, and enjoy their work more by being creative and innovative.

He has a popular blog “Vanilla Java (http://vanillajava.blogspot.com.au/)” which gets 120K page views per month, he is 2nd and 3rd on StackOverflow.com for Concurrency and Java respectively, and is lead developer of the OpenHFT project which includes support for thread safe off heap memory, thread pinning and low latency persistence and IPC (as low as 100 nano-seconds)

Extra mini-event - Tutorial

Peter is going to run a number-limited in person tutorial on the topic (bring your laptops!) at the AOL offices, before the talk, at approximately 4:30pm.

Because numbers are limited, we've put together a little challenge for folks to become eligible for the tutorial, please do give it your best shot:

We're looking for members to give short, informal 10-20 minute talks, about anything related to Java or the JVM, please reach out if you're interested.
