Hey folks,

We're very lucky and privileged to have a special guest, Maurice Naftalin, giving a talk on Java 8 on the 10th of September.

We're going to be raffling off copies of his book - "Mastering Lambdas: Java Programming in a Multicore World" too, so please do come along.

Talk Title: Let's Get to the Rapids: Java 8 Stream Performance

Talk Description:For Java programmers, looping over a collection is the time-honored way of processing data. Now, from Java 8 onwards, we will instead be writing stream programs – more concise, more expressive, and more maintainable. But how fast will they be? To understand the factors that control stream performance, we need to look at how streams begin and end as well as the work that they do along the way. And to make things more complicated still, we have to decide when to use the built-in parallelization support offered by streams. In this talk we’ll disentangle these problems and create guidelines for getting the best performance from Java 8 streams.

Maurice Naftalin has over 30 years' experience in IT - as developer, designer, architect, manager, teacher, and author. He has written two well known books, "Java Generics and Collections (http://shop.oreilly.com/product/9780596527754.do)"with Peter Wadler, and "Mastering Lambdas: Java Programming in a Multicore World". He is a certified Java Programmer and has worked in every release of Java to date. Naftalin's experience in Java and business give him a unique perspective on the fundamental change that comes with introducing Lambda expressions in Java. He is a frequent presenter at conferences worldwide, including the annual JavaOne.
