Dublin Linux User Group: Rust programming and submit your first Kernel patch!

Details
Hello everyone!
We'll be hosting another meetup event at Dogpatch (http://dogpatchlabs.com/about/) Labs, in the splendid CHQ Building!
This time, we will be talking about:
• Baby's First Kernel Patch
• Rust programming in the GNU/Linux environment
• Linux Day 2016!
Pizza and drinks offered by our sponsor, Propylon (http://www.propylon.com). We will also distribute Free Software Foundation (http://www.fsf.org/) swag!
The Talks:
"Baby's First Kernel Patch"
How difficult is it to make a contribution to the development of the Linux kernel? Do I need to know C? What are the coding standards? Do I clone the repository from Gitlab? What is the Eudyptula Challenge?
Rigel Di Scala will answer these and other questions during this talk. We will also take a look at the process of writing a simple kernel module and submitting it.
"Rust programming in the GNU/Linux environment"
In a world dominated by C, how does a new language like Rust hope to make a mark?
Greg Chapple will give an overview of the benefits & features of Rust, and discuss how it could potentially serve as a feasible systems programming language on GNU/Linux platforms and beyond. Topics covered will include unique features of Rust, potential applications and comparisons to C & other similar languages.
"Linux Day in Dublin: let's do it!"
The Linux Day (http://linuxday.org/) is a worldwide event dedicated to GNU/Linux. We believe Dublin should host it this year. Want to participate?
