Building Video Replies @ Intercom, Functional Programming & Universal JavaScript

Details

NOTE: This meetup was originally scheduled for 3rd November but has been moved to November 10th

We've a great mix of talks lined up for you this month. Topics covered include building video replies at Intercom (POSTPONED), Universal JavaScript and Functional Programming. Thanks to our sponsor, Intercom (https://intercom.io), for providing pizza and beer for the meetup.

Universal JS - John Brett, D4H Technologies @johnbrett_ (https://twitter.com/johnbrett_)
UniversalJS (aka isomorphic) Apps is the latest buzzword around when it comes to building apps in JavaScript, which are apps where JavaScript is rendered on the server AND client. This talk will look at getting started with UniversalJS, and also some of the tradeoffs, pain points we ran into and patterns that help with this approach.

Building Video Replies at Intercom - Mike Stewart, Intercom @thatmikefellow (https://twitter.com/thatmikefellow) (POSTPONED)
At Intercom, our product engineering team always spends some of its time on new, experimental concepts for features. This tells the story of taking an experimental feature from concept to production, and dives into some of the technical details of how we made native in-browser video messaging work.

Functional programming and the web - Bob Long, Intercom @bobjlong (https://twitter.com/bobjlong)
Functional programming is a paradigm for developing software that favours function composition and immutability. In this talk we'll look at the origins of FP, how it's influenced various languages and environments, and how it applies to modern web development: from lambda calculus to React

Thanks to this month's meetup sponsor, Intercom for providing pizza and beer on the night.Intercom is reinventing customer communication for the Internet.
