Mini Exercise Event: 5K

Details
Focusing on the active part of our meetup, we'll be starting a new series of exercise meetups, each focusing on a different style of working out. The idea behind this is to have the classes be free (or possibly by donation to a charity) and led by members of the meetup. While we will certainly welcome professionals leading these meetups, anyone who has experience in a type of exercise will be welcome to teach a class.
For this meet-up we'll be running a 5K. A 5k is a 3.1 mile race, and the NOG Run Club hosts a weekly Monday evening run through downtown Raleigh. Running helps develop cardiovascular strength and endurance.
The run starts at 6:00 pm, and proceeds through historic Oakwood before heading up past the NC Capitol Building and down Fayetteville Street. All pacers are welcome, but I usually aim for a 9:00 per mile pace.
One race per month is dedicated as a fund raiser for a given charity. The Nog's May charity raising money and food for the Women's Center of Wake County. You can make a cash donation or bring any of the following requested items: Canned meat (tuna, beef stew, etc), peanut butter, pasta and sauce, and canned fruits/vegetables (all donations should be in regular and NOT economy sized cans). Donations will receive a raffle ticket for a free pair of New Balance running shoes. I wear New Balance shoes, because they're the only ones wide enough to fit my duck feet.
If you've never attended the NOG run club before, please arrive early to register and sign the necessary waiver forms and bring $1.00 for your snazzy key fob. There is a $1.00 pasta and salad bar for runners, and usually some sort of beer special. If there's enough interest we can see about forming a trivia team for the post run trivia contest.
