Kids love technology, in some sense they have no choice but to love it, my five year old was stealing my iPhone when she was 2, so we bought her an iPad and then the list goes on... But what we did was make sure she was also exposed to the "Maker Culture" not a hard task with Nick as her dad, our house is a giant experiment in custom made home automation.
My 5 year old is mad about Lego, we have not yet introduced her to MineCraft but that is on the list, one thing I love about MineCraft is its ability to teach 3D CAD without you even realising it as you are just having fun! and I know a whole pile of young people who want nothing more than to be makers rather than just consumers!
I am the HR Director for ionCube.com, I am the worst coder, but I know why and that's helped tremendously when recruiting for developers and coders. I love to project manage and finding people is my hobby :)
Mozilla webMaker mentor, EPIK founder helping parents and teachers to value and promote engineers to their kids 7+ by looking for aptitude in coding, music or being obsessed with MineCraft and Lego to help them progress and experience IT as a whole.
Great way to meet people and share our skills by helping our kids progress from gamers to makers and maybe learning something new too! :)
