I left the organization of Jehovah's Witnesses last year, after being raised in that faith and spending the better part of 13 years as an active, baptized member. Currently an atheist, I have been stripped of the love and association enjoyed with my believing immediate family and former friends. While the transition has been enormously painful (almost unbearably so), I have found great comfort in meeting others like myself.

You needn't be an atheist to join this group; you needn't hold to any particular theistic belief. Hell, you don't even need to be a former JW to join this group. Obviously, I would encourage all local ex-Jehovah's Witnesses to join and find new friendship, to eat and drink and share some laughs (and perhaps even some tears). That aside, I welcome further anyone also interested or even affiliated with Jehovah's Witnesses; join us and see that we're not the evil, wicked people that the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society (JW's organizational name, for those unfamiliar) makes us out to be.

"Hi! I am 39 and left the religion all my family and friends at the age of 16. I grew up in Redford and attended a Detroit congregation. It has been a rough road but I am better for it!"

"Hi there! I'm so happy that there is a group in Ann Arbor now! I'm looking forward to meeting everyone in that area! I left an abusive marriage, disfellowshipped and now glad to be free. I have moved here to Michigan to help to start other groups. :)"

"Jada, yes I agree and I am really aware of how lucky I was to not have that deep indoctrination that recovering COG and Jehovah's Witnesses have had...."

"Hi I'm Jada. I was born into this religion, and never thought I would want to stop being a Witness. I'm just working on building a happy life free of the Watchtower."

"I would be interested in finding out how anyone had the courage to break away from a devoutly religious (safe?) mind-set. I am a life long atheist. Most of my friends are religious to one extent or another."

"I grew up in a christian home and always felt like I couldn't just be myself, like I had to conform to this fake happiness in order to be close to God. I would like to join the group to see what others think about religion."

"My name is Tiffany. I was raised as a JW and decided it was not for me when I was about 16. However, my mom still has the blinders on and I find it increasingly hard to have a relationship with her. I'd like to talk to people who can relate."
