This is a great trail for a night hike - wide with great views. Our moon will be only a little more than a 1/4 - so bring a light.
We have not done this lately, but people can be fast or slow to the top. The way is clear.
Once we hit the top, it tends to turn into a social event, as we wait for the last to arrive and yuck it up as we walk down together.

Beaudry Loop runs 6 miles and about 1,400 feet of elevation gain, so it's best for intermediate hikers and above, or very fit novices. (Beginners may find that they're unable to keep up with the group on several steep sections.) It's an excellent trail for evening hikes, wide and well-groomed, with lots of ambient light filtering in from the city lights below. You'll get great views of the San Gabriel Valley, the San Fernando Valley and the LA basin, with the majestic San Gabriel Mountains standing tall in the darkness to the northeast. Bring a flashlight or headlamp, a liter or two of water, and something to snack on (sharing encouraged!) when we take a break on top at Tongva Peak (elev. 2,656). It can be breezy and cool up there, so bring an extra layer or two of clothing as well, and possibly a dry shirt...you're likely to work up a sweat.
Directions: From Pasadena, take the 210 west and exit at La Crescenta Ave. Turn left (south) and go 1 mile, just past the light at Shirlyjean, then turn right on Oakmont View. Follow Oakmont View 0.6 miles, winding around a bit, and then turn left on Barnes. Drive 0.3 miles, turn right on Beaudry Terrace, and go about 100 yards to the meeting spot. There's plenty of free street parking in a safe neighborhood; no Adventure Pass necessary. GPS: 34.193483, -118.241172
Without traffic, the trailhead is only about 10-15 minutes from Pasadena or downtown LA, so throw your gear in the car on your way to work and come along. We'll be back to the cars before 8:30 pm. Friendly, trail-wise dogs are -- need I say it at this point? -- welcome as always.
