HTML5 and JavaScript (part 1)

This is a big topic, but one that is really popular with folks who have contributed ideas. JavaScript is so tightly bound to HTML5 that I'm sure we'll need to re-visit it several times.

Here are some ideas of things to talk about in HTML5 and JavaScript (part 1). Thanks to all who have contributed:

* There great potential in the new HTML5 JavaScript APIs: New selectors, Web storage, and Geolocation to name a few. Let's take a tour of some of these.
* JavaScript plays a big role in helping us take advantage of powerful HTML5 features. For example, with Modernizr we can start using HTML5 semantic elements event in IE. Let's explore some common techniques for this.
* Several procedural JavaScript patterns that we know and love are becoming declarative in HTML5. (Think the placeholder attribute.) How do we implement them now in browsers that don't support them yet?

If you would like to give a presentation the role of JavaScript with HTML5 please drop me a line.

I REALLY want to attend this, but already have a prior commitment at the same time. Any chance the day can be changed?

Hi Chantal. Scheduling is really tight for me right now and I had a hard time locking down this date. Let's leave it for the 17th unless it proves to be a problem for a lot of people. We'll get all the material posted for folks who can't make it and we could try to do a follow-up hackfest at TechLiminal if there is interest.

My Grandfather O'Donnell is rolling over in his grave because I scheduled this meetup on St. Patrick's day. My apologies for offending any Irish HTML5 slingers. If it's a major problem for people, we can reschedule for Tuesday the 15th. If not, we can keep it on the 17th and I'll buy us some beer.

Maybe it's okay if we use HSLA values to refer to the color green.

The 17th is fine for me but if you decide to change the date please DON'T make it a Tuesday. I really want to attend this meetup. My RoR classes are on Tuesdays

We have one great presenter already, but I'm still looking for a couple more people to present on this topic. Shoot me an email if you would like to give a short presentation on how you use JavaScript with HTML5.
