What do you love about singing with others?

I love the magic that happens in the moment when singing with others. I love how quiet my mind gets. I love that feeling of being totally focused on what is happening. I love the play of many sounds merging into one. I love when all of these voices converge into a symphony with no planning, no orchestration.

What is more important about singing with others: having a good voice or being a good listener? How so?

My goal in singing is to create beauty. To do this, I believe that listening is most important. If I care more about the whole that is being created, then my voice comes into harmony with that larger whole.

Do you love singing and having no idea what is going to happen in the next moment?

Yes! I love the spontaneity and surprise of vocal improv and ecstatic singing. I believe their is magic in randomness and a greater intelligence can flow when I let go of expectations and get out of the way. To me, singing is a form of worship, bliss and play.

Do you believe there is room for everyone to be an artist and express themselves creatively?

This is one of my values: seeing everyone as having a valid human need to be seen, heard and witnessed and to express themselves creatively

What does ecstatic singing mean to you?

It means trance, it means prayer, it means play, it means community, it means communion, it means dance, it means ecstasy!

I love that the human body can be an instrument for creative expression. I love encouraging myself and others to shine, to be heard and witnessed. I love singing and dancing and being silly and having fun! I love seeing the sacred in all things.
