Fab SLAM Kick-Off

Details
Digital Harbor Foundation will be holding it's second Fab SLAM (formerly STEM Core Digital Fabrication Challenge) starting April 5th and ending May 30th.
What is this event?
Unlike the previous SLAM, we will be revealing the challenge topic during the Kick-off event! This is the first time the topic of this SLAM will be announced to the public and the teams so you don’t want to miss out!
Students can also register for the Fab SLAM at this event. (If you are not at the event, you can still be eligible to participate by applying at http://www.stemcore.com/fabslam/ after the event).
We will perform a demo of 3D printing and give more information about digital design.
This is also a great opportunity to meet student participants, teacher sponsors, and team mentors.
Who should attend?
All high school students interested in participating in the Fab SLAM can join us at this event to learn more about 3D printing, digital fabrication, and the Fab SLAM.
All educators interested in coaching a team should attend as well.
If you are interested in participating as a teacher with a student team or a team mentor, come on over and check it out!
What is a Fab SLAM?
The Fab SLAM, described simply, is a science fair style team competition where groups of students are presented with a challenge topic and then using basic CAD and 3D-Printing skills, the students develop a product using rapid prototyping and design iteration. The student teams will track and record their learning process and their design iterations over the course of the challenge via a blog. At the closing event on May 30th, the teams will present their projects and documentation at the Tech Center to the public and a panel of judges from the tech field. It will be very exciting and a great opportunity for youth.
No previous skills are necessary. Teams can be paired up with a local University or Community lab and mentor to learn basic CAD and 3D-Printing skills. We will also provide a basic curriculum to help you learn digital design.
Doors open at 5:30pm and the event will end by 7:00pm.
