Internet of Things Meetup Kick-off

Dear members,

The internet of things is about a convergence of many different things; the growing range of sensing and controlling technologies, data capture, communication and analysis. But it is also about what we are doing with these technologies and perhaps more importantly what they are doing to us.

This first meetup will bring together anyone active or interested in building, creating, designing and also critically reviewing as well as actively steering developments in this area.

We will start by introducing ourselves, sharing our different perspectives and thoughts on this field and shape the goals for this group, which are:

a. To bring together a diversity of people, skills and interest together to inspire each other and act as catalysts for ongoing activities and developments in the field of IoT

Hans Crijns who runs the Internet of Things Amsterdam meetup will give us a presentation to tell us about the different types of activities the Amsterdam group enjoys.

b. To organise a regular programme of expert and inspiring presentations and hands-on workshops covering the technology, design, business and social aspects of IoT

c. To find people interested in joining The Things Network campaign (www.thethingsnetwork.org) startedin Amsterdam and launching globally to crowdsource city-wide data networks. Using LoraWAN technology which allows for things to talk to the internet without 3G or WiFi. So no WiFi codes and no mobile subscriptions. A public, free IoT network.

Amsterdam crowdfunded and launched theirs in 6 weeks, how long do we need !

We will be joined by Wienke Giezeman from Amsterdam who will tell us in more detail about his journey in setting up The Things Network . . . and provide some practical information to help us on our way.
