Is our city smart yet?
What does that mean? What could it mean? What will it mean?
LoRaWAN | Design Thinking @Designhuis
11:00 – 16:00
Creativity required… Technology knowledge not required, but always very welcome. Lets start with WHY? before WHAT and HOW?
With special guests Juanita Devis Clavijo from the MIT Media Lab's Changing Places group to talk about the Andorra Living Lab Project
AND
6 international artists and Age of Wonderland fellows 2016
who will talk about their Big Data|Big DATA projects
But most of all meet the community and enjoy an inspiring day of creative brainstorming, focused on collaborative design thinking to consider meaningful use cases for Eindhoven’s The Things Network LoRaWAN
The Things Network is on course for its July Kickstarter delivery of nodes and gateways, upgraded with Bluetooth 4.2 and Xbee for further extensibility. Progress is also being made with the backend, with a new staging environment of TTN back-end 1.0, a public beta that will develop and grow with the community.
What better way to contribute to the development of our own city IoT network than to move beyond the technology to more inspiring ideas on how we might use it? This Meetup will be facilitated and focused on applying design thinking tools to generate new application ideas and prototyping potential for the Eindhoven Things Network.
Simple refreshments, food and drink, will be on sale by the Designhuis
Our special guests:
Juanita Devis Clavijo a member of the Eindhoven IoT community is a Colombian architect at the MIT Media Lab's Changing Places group and currently involved in the Andorra Living Lab project, which combines different research topics of the group (Energy consumption, city simulation, urban mobility, innovation district and smart housing), to provide comprehensive solutions for the future urban challenges of the country. She is contributing in the design of participatory spaces promoting the interaction between people, the complexity of local conditions, and innovation strategies for a smart country. Juanita is also investigating new innovative elements enhancing the future living experience of Andorra. She received the Master of Science in Architecture at Politecnico di Milano, Italy.
We will also welcome 6 international Age of Wonderland fellows. Artists working on the Age of Wonderland: Big Data, Big DADA programme (Baltan Laboraties/Hivos People Unmlimited), visiting Eindhoven community as part of their incubation period in May before a residency in October, leading up to the Dutch Design Week:
Iman Abdurrahman (1977, Indonesia)
Project: Backpack Radio Station
Paz Bernaldo (1982, Chile)
Project: Death Toll Experience
Ali Eslami (1991, Iran)
Project: Public Park as Living Lab
Ng’Winula ’UNU’ Kingamkono (1989, Tanzania)
Project: Data Park to Relieve Congestion
Branly López (1975, Guatemala)
Project: Mayan Big Cosmic Data
and
Budi Prakosa (1985, Indonesia) Who will present his project ‘Mighty Bits’: Highlighting an increasing gap with the world of data and aiming to tackle the gap between those who collect data for commercial purposes and those who produce data and could use it to improve their living circumstances. ‘Mighty Bits’ – which will be developed during the 2016 Age of Wonderland programme – is a user-friendly software, which enables people without any background in programming to develop their own database system. This open data platform enables communities to share data with other communities, visualises the data to make it more easily understood and makes it accessible and actionable for everyday needs and it triggers knowledge creation for communities for whom it would otherwise not be accessible.
