Caroling at Merwick Care Center

One of our earliest events, in December of last year, was caroling for the residents and patients at the Merwick Care Center. It holds a special place in our members' hearts, and several of you asked if we would be returning again this year.

Thanks to member Sue Bertomeu Albert, we have been asked if we would come again this year on December 22, meeting at 2pm in Main Lobby.

This event is absolutely open to teens and older kids who would love to sing or play and are mature enough to understand how to behave in this type of setting.

Merwick is near the new Princeton Medical Center in Plainsboro.

The place is big, so there will be lots of opportunities to move around and sing the same songs to different people for about 2 hours. Singers and folks with portable instruments (guitars, percussion, etc) are needed. There are a couple of pianos, but not in all areas of the facility.

We will bring some song lyrics sheets - the music should be ppretty familiar to most of us. I may bring some in very large print in case residents/patients want to sing along and need their memories of familiar lyrics refreshed .

It was wonderful to be there. My little Thomas also had a grand time taking part.

What a wonderful time! This annual tradition brings such joy to the residents at Merwick and to all of us too!

Hi All - Thanks for signing up. Rachel, thanks for offering to bring lyrics sheets and others for bringing instruments. Most of you were there last time and it will probably be the same stops. Last year, I brought my dog, Louie (a beagle who jumps through hula hoop and bring cheer to several residents there that we regularly visit). For a number of reasons, I'm not sure if I'll bring him this time. I thought I'd check with you all first as part of my decision. Let me know asap if you would have a problem with Louie joining us. Thanks! Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday!!

If Merwick is ok with Louie, I'm ok! I will be there with bells on like last year. Will probably bring a keyboard for the lounge area - and will have my guitar too. Like the posting I saw earlier today on Facebook says, "Keep calm and carol on."

Thanks Steve! Merwick was ok with Louie last year, but there is a new director there, so not sure. We visit a few people there all year long, but he is not an official 'therapy dog' (although he follows similar rules). He is actually now insured through my membership in World Clown Association though, so I will run it by them if I hear no complaints from the carolers.
