Update on Our Collaborative and our 6/15 Music Party - "What the Heck is that Song"

Hello EA Music Collaborators -

Kathy, Rachel and I hope this note finds you and yours well after a beautiful Memorial Day Holiday Weekend.

This is first of all a public welcome to the dozen or so new members who have come aboard our wonderful and highly distinguished group of Central NJ musical collaborators since we gathered last. You are in for a wonderful and authentic experience.  I would also like to publicly welcome and thank Rachel Henk who has graciously stepped forward to join Kathy Haynie and me as a Co-Organizer of our growing community.

As of this morning our Collaborative group has expanded to 65 members.  This is definitely exponential growth that has exceeded my wildest expectations. At this rate our membership will undoubtedly exceed 100 members by this fall.  We have grown by word of mouth with members encouraged to invite other members because our group is pretty unique and special.  In what way?  We are passionate, we are welcoming,  supportive, and respectful of all members, we welcome and embrace diverse musical styles, and we believe in community service. With our rapid expansion, Kathy, Rachel and I have felt the need to memorialize our group's mission and values in a living document that we will distribute soon to all of our members.  Until that time I ask all members to do one thing - welcome our newest members.  As I always say the really important gatherings are the ones that happen in between our regular gatherings.  So reach out and get acquainted with each other!

As you know our Collaborative will kick off the summer season with "What the Heck is that Song?," an eclectic and wonderful assortment of performances and jams of "Musica Obscura," original compositions, and of course One Hit Wonders (hereinafter "OHW") performed by your fellow Music Collaborators.    With only minimal publicity for this gathering, we've already had 26 members and guests pre-register, and our Collaborative is buzzing with musical collaboration. We even have an all-star house band, "The One Hit Wonders" in formation and are actually rehearsing for the 15th.    So, if you are a singer, or a solo musician who would like to perform a "OHW" but don't know any musicians to play with, but still dream of fronting a band so that you can belt out, "Bette Davis Eyes"  "She Drives Me Crazy," "Kung Foo Fighting" or any of the many other great OHW's , The OHW's are available at your service.  We have room for a handful of additional musicians who would actually like to rehearse before the 15th with our orchestra in our top secret and undisclosed location. If this is of interest please contact me or my partner-in-rhyme Marc Helberg.

So let the signup's and collaboration begin! The signup sheet updated as of 1:00PM today is posted in the files section of our Meetup site - http://www.meetup.com/Einstein-Alley-Musicians-Collaborative/files/.   Because some members were uncomfortable having to sign up for Dropbox in order to sign up to participate last time, we are going to go a bit more low tech this time.  If you would like to sign up for a slot, text or call me [masked]), or email me ([address removed]) and say you would like to sign up for a 10 min slot and I will add you to the schedule.  Please say what you are planning to do, whether it includes any other musicians and whether it is a performance (closed) or jam (open) group.  Please indicate your preferred time slot but understand that because of excessive volume at the last two parties, we've designated the slots between 6:10 and 8:20 for "acoustic, acapella, and lightly plugged in performances," with amplified rock and roll welcome after 8:20.   Right now only a small handful of time slots have been claimed, so don't get closed out.  Slots will be filled on a first, come, first serve basis.

Several members have asked me whether they might invite non-performing guests to attend our party. Absolutely, however all attendees (performing or as audience) are kindly requested to contribute $10 for space rental and bring something for our pot-luck spread.   Non performing guests are also welcome to bring cameras, videos, etc, to help document the evening or to serve as apprentice stagehands/roadies especially during our breakdown/cleanup segment from (9:45-10PM).
