Elasticsearch @ Hopper

Hopper, based in Boston and Montreal, is experimenting with different tools, technology and algorithms to collect, organize and manage massive amounts of travel data. The result is a new kind of trip planning engine, powered by the world's largest structured database of travel information. Come and find out how they made the switch from Solr to Elasticsearch and the type of capabilities this change opened up for them.

Going Organic: genomic sequence alignment with Elasticsearch

Biologists routinely align genomic and proteomic sequences to find similarity between genes. Sequence alignment is a type of fuzzy string matching across millions of documents, requiring both speed and precision. In this talk, we will explore how sequence alignment works, the unique challenges involved, and how Elasticsearch can be leveraged to provide a new method of finding alignments.

Speaker: Although officially trained as a neuroscientist, Zachary Tong has thrown off the shackles of pipettes and petri dishes and gone back to his original passion: building software. Zach is a developer at Elasticsearch and loves to tackle problems at the intersection of biology and software.
