Elm Meet 'n Hack

Details

Agenda:

• Meet and greet (6:00-6:15)

• Basic intro to Elm architecture/ syntax with code walkthrough (6:15-6:30)

• Hack on a guided toy project or hack your own. (6:30-)

Things to bring:

• A laptop. If may also pair program with another person.

• Excitement & willingness to learn.

Our guess is that 'learning by doing' is the best way to start growing the community. Later, we will also organize talks and other events.

Note:

• If you cannot join this one, join us for the next one on Wednesday July, 27th.

• Suite Genius is closed to public from 5pm. Use buzzer or call Rindra on 778-871-8467 if needed.

• If you cannot come but already RSVP-ed. Please cancel it so others on waitlist can join.

FAQ:

Q: I heard Elm is great but I never used functional languages. Can I benefit from a hack night?

A: Of course. There are many stories of people learning Elm to become better in JS framework like React/Redux.

Q: Will you use Elm 0.17 for this meetup?

A: Yes. The new version is much much simpler and accessible (http://elm-lang.org/blog/farewell-to-frp).

Q: Where can I find more information about Elm.

A: The best starting point is: The Elm Guide (http://guide.elm-lang.org).

Q: Why do you limit the number of attendees to 10?

A: Suite Genius (https://suite-genius.com/) generously offered a hack night space for 10 people. As the community grow, we will find a larger space for both hack nights and talk events.
