February 2014 Meetup

Welcome to February, folks—February 18th, to be exact. For the first time ever we're going to be taking a stab at a Sunnyvale meetup. Our friends at Yahoo have taken a big interest in using Ember, and they're excited to host us. They're providing a sweet venue, fantastic food (Sushi!) and drinks, and all the purple the eye can see! They're also flying Tom and Yehuda up to speak, because let's face it: you miss them :D

Like our first meetups at Addepar in Mountain View, this is a test event to see how a Sunnyvale location would fare. If you're interested, please do make sure you show up.

***

Schedule

6:30pm - 7:00pm: Check-In, Networking and Food
7:00pm - 7:30pm: Talk by Sam Mueller
7:30pm - 7:40pm: Break
7:40pm - 8:10pm: Talk by Tomhuda
8:10pm - 8:40pm: Networking

****

Program

Sam Mueller

Sam will be showcasing the applications that Yahoo has built / is building with Ember, and talk about some of the challenges they’ve faced during development.

Thanks to everyone for coming! The video is now online here: http://youtu.be/dbTnG6LrY7s . My slides to follow along: https://slid.es/sjmueller/ember-yahoo and Tomhuda's: https://speakerdeck.com/wycats/ember-how-the-concepts-scale-up. Sorry for the low quality.

We're really excited to be using ember here at Yahoo, and we are hiring front end developers in full force! Contact me on twitter (@samuel_mueller) or see this post for more details: http://discuss.emberjs.com/t/big-things-are-happening-here-at-yahoo/3926

It was a great meetup. Both Sam's and Tomhuda's talks were well-presented and very informative. We're just starting to use Ember at Netflix, with D3 data visualizations, Rx, and WebSockets -and real-time event stream processing on the backend processing a massive number of events- to build from scratch a real-time insight system. See http://nflx.it/KHDmsc for details. Ping me at [masked] if you are interested in this project and would like to work on it. We're looking for an awesome full-time front-end engineer.

Thanks so much for coming folks! There was a second person in the audience with a tripod recording the sessions—anyone know who that was? There were issues with the first recording, so I'm hoping we might be able to get ahold of and post the other videos. Content would be great to have online. Please post or email if it's you or you know who it was, and thanks again to everyone!

Excellent. It was on the peninsula rather than where it's near impossible to travel to the city in traffic. Yahoo was an excellent host and I'd like to know to whom I could send a personal thank you.

Talks went long and fluffy. Would have like the slides before to make sure I had a better basis for understanding.

Please video tape these - whole it's great to press the flesh and see people content still matters so don't lose that. Especially for those who can't get to SF.

Heya! Sam Mueller is the guy to thank for making it all happen :) As for video, we do it when we have someone with skills and equipment or budget to do it, we're definitely fans.

Should we be worried about Tomhuda leaving their day jobs for a touring comedy act? Great presentation guys. I learned something and paid attention.

Finding building C is a bit confusing :p Ask at the front gate and they'll point you at the parking garage, we're on floor 3. Room is filling up!

Would love to help facilitate carpooling as best as we can. Please ping me if you'll be driving from San Francisco or elsewhere and can accommodate guests! events at tilde.io. I'll try and get a list going, but feel free to post here as well to try and connect with other folks.
