STUDY / ACTION CIRCLE - Faith In The 21st Century

Details

We are told we live in a Secular age and in many ways we do. Yet in the 21st century we have seen a revival in faith based movements and an interest in spirituality. How do we understand this and how can we all live together respecting each other's convictions.

We are holding a study circle to explore this to see if we can understand better each other's position and to examine how we can continue dialogue and possibly social action across boundaries. We want to explore the established religions, the advent of new religious movements, the growing interest in spirituality and the changing face of humanism as it responds to this.

This new circle is being convened by Mark Barrett who has got together a group of people who want to explore interfaith dialogue and to include all faiths and none in North London. Possible concrete aims for this project have already been put forward by others in his area, with suggestions as follows:

(1) Values and Action - exploration of universal values, to discuss how different faiths and humanism treat those values, identify common ground and possibly develop concrete action projects together.

(2) Abrahamic Scriptural Reasoning - exploration of Judaism, Christianity and Islam to study and discuss together how each religion's scriptures and religious practices treat, for example different scriptural episodes, universal values and/or prophetic characters, and then on to a wider discussion of ramifications, in terms of individual and social action in the modern secular world.

This will therefore be the first meeting of what we hope will be an ongoing study and /or possibly an action circle.

This Meet Up is also advertised on the main Global Net 21 site at https://www.meetup.com/21stCenturyNetwork/events/106294392/
