Stan Schultes of innovation firm Spark Growth (http://sparkgrowth.net/), with John Osborne of Manatee County Planning, host a free community discussion about Smart Cities on the evening of Tuesday, August 2nd, 2016. With all the growth and change happening in the Bradenton area and in Manatee County, they ask, "What's a Smart City and What Does that Mean to You?"

Join us at 5pm for Social Hour. Discussion starts at 6:15pm

This highly interactive conversation will look at what are we already doing in the Bradenton area as well as what is on the planning board. What areas of life benefit from smart cities technology, how do we best involve citizens, and what about privacy concerns? What are the kinds of projects that leading cities are implementing, what hurdles do they present, and what are the benefits they enjoy?

A Smart City is an urban development vision to integrate multiple information and communication technology (ICT) solutions to manage a city’s and region’s assets. Through the use of sensors and human input integrated with real-time monitoring, non-personal data are collected from a wide variety of devices and systems with the goal of improving our quality of life with insights gained through big-data analytics and interactive apps for citizen engagement. Think local departments' information systems, schools, libraries, transportation systems, autonomous vehicles, hospitals, power plants, water supply networks, waste management, Emergency Management, etc.

Stan and John are leading voices for Smart Cities Technology in the Bradenton area and will lead a city/county team attending Harvard’s Smart Cities Accelerator this fall in Boston. Join us at Station 2 Innovation in Bradenton for this Network & Learn session, and help drive the discussion on how our area can best be served by Smart Cities technology. Come and let your voice be heard and counted as you weigh into the conversation.
