Visit a landfill site turned golf course and waste turned green electricity
Details
Come and experience a landfill site turned into a recreational space and the waste you generate turned into green electricity!
About the tour...
The tour will run from 1.00pm - 3.00pm. The tour will comprise of a visit to a closed landfill site and a nearby landfill gas plant. The landfill site contains over 13 million cubic meters of waste deposited between 1980 and 2001. The landfill site has been restored into a golf course for public use. Underneath the golf course, methane (landfill/greenhouse gas) is still been produced in significant quantities as a result of the continuous breakdown of waste. The methane produced is piped from the landfill to a nearby electricity generation plant that supplies surrounding areas with green electricity.
An excellent example of an environmental solution!
