Chicago Erlang Users - December 2012

Details

Just when you thought Chicago Erlang went into hibernation...

First Ever, Erlang Improv!

If you've ever been to Chicago's Second City, you have some idea of what we're talking about. This month's meeting will be just like the world famous after hours improv jam sessions, only without the talent, hilarity and overall entertainment value!

But it will have Erlang and plenty of it.

The format is simple: someone in the audience shouts out a scenario, for example "massively parallel ray tracing algorithm... um... um... that uses OpenGL bindings - go!"

And then someone has to implement that scene in Erlang.

Something like that.

Lightning Talks

If it's Erlang related and you're excited about it, take 5 - 15 minutes to share with the group. The less you prepare for this the better. It's improv!

Open Discussion

Between presentations we'll open the floor for any conceivable question about Erlang. Be creative! Here are some ideas:

I can't reassign values in Erlang. I rebooted my computer but it didn't help! Why does Erlang syntax resemble Prolog with asphyxia? Was that intentional? Only nine nines? What's up with that? I just got fired for using Erlang at my job. Can I stay at your house? What's the best way to debug a 1K line function in Erlang? At Erlang Improv you're limited only by your imagination!

If you're behind on your Erlang for the year or just want an excuse to hang out with the city's most amazingest people, this is the night and the place!

We'll have a projector with VGA interface, but feel free to bring other props.

The Venue

Jefferson Tap has a comfortable meeting space upstairs. They have an excellent menu of reasonably priced dinner items and of course delicious tap related beverages!
