Edward Snowden: Traitor or Patriot?

  • June 22, 2014 · 10:30 AM

Are our laws only for the little people?  Is the Administration exempt from all constitutional restraints?

Snowden made millions of secret documents public.  In doing so he revealed to the American people that their government spies on them, in mass, illegally, every minute, in every way, through an agency that violates the constitution and laws, and lies to Congress about it.  It also revealed to our allies that it spies on them too.

Edward Snowden and his constitutional lawyer/author Glenn Greenwald on one

side, Barak Obama and his Secretary of State John Kerry on the other.

They agree that he did it and the docs were real, but differ on what should be done next.

Correct the NSA,

indict its officials, make it comply with our Constitution

or just lock up Snowdon.

To a thinking person, it’s troubling, a much bigger question about what American is or has become.    Are our laws now only for little people?

Great meeting - great topic and good participation by all--I think the preparation and work by our leader Richard Mohley is outstanding and makes these get-togethers well worthwhile. Thanks

As always, interesting discussion. Library location was quiet and pleasant, and sitting in a circle, everyone could be heard.

MY QUESTION IS THIS: Is government restrained by law so unthinkable? Nixon thought it was, Republicans hate the idea. The ancient Romans liked the idea, but couldn't keep it going. Apparently Democrats don't like the idea when a Democrat is in charge. I heard something on OPB yesterday. The narrator said that invading a country (Iraq) to remove a dictator "HAS ITS PRO'S AND CON'S." But that is not true, ITS A CRIME! Under the Geneva Conventions, Nuremberg Principles to do that is an international crime. Everybody outside the US knows that. Does robbing a bank, molesting a child, shooting up a mall have its pro's and con's? THAT is exactly what chasing Snowden is about, a distraction from the real issue. What do you think? But remember, the NSA is already watching you.

WATCH SNOWDEN's INTERVIEWS on Youtube. He is amazingly articulate and a deep thinker. I am always puzzled at how a law breaker in another generation (Ellsber, MLK) can be hailed as a hero, and the SAME THING TODAY is condemned as treason. It never fails, when done by Obama, I am embarrassed for him.

It is hard to understand why the government must know my secrets-intentions-actions--and those of everyone in the country and abroad. Nothing in the past even comes close to the magnitude and intrusive nature of this action by a president whom I believed would not allow the same. If a right-wing republican was responsible there would be an outcry the likes have of which had never been heard. But since we have a democrat to blame, there is hardly a whimper. And can one understand the what this spying will become in 10 years or so? 1984 was a nothing compared to what the government is doing now. Bigger Brother is indeed watching us.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
