What we’re about
The Ethical Society of Austin (ESA) is a non-theistic humanist religious and educational fellowship for those who seek a rational, compassionate philosophy of life. Together we develop our ethical ideals, celebrate life's joys, and support one another through life's crises. Membership is open to those who embrace our principles regardless of race, religion, or national origin. ESA is part of the larger Ethical Culture movement whose member societies are joined together through the American Ethical Union, headquartered in New York, NY. There are about two dozen societies in the U.S. The AEU belongs to the International Humanist and Ethical Union with branches in about 100 countries worldwide.
Some of us join the Ethical Society as a more formal and permanent face-to-face commitment than a Meetup group, but that is never a requirement. We endeavor to nurture the capacity and responsibility of human beings to act in their personal relationships and in the larger community to help create a better world for us and for our children. In addition to our 10:30-12:00 Sunday meetings, we have potlucks, social gatherings, and social action projects. Our Ethics for Children Sunday School teaches courage, loyalty, ethical behavior, and love for the earth to ages 3-11.
