This will be a gala-type speaking event wherein the focus of the evening will be to cultivate a mature discussion on the power of the psychedelic experience. In an effort to dissolve stigma and seed an opportunity for people to share their personal experiences in a safe environment, we intend to have people from various walks of life to share their stories of how a psychedelic experience has benefited their life and helped them heal in some way.

As this is a gala, dinner event we encourage you to come donned in your finest psychedelic attire.

Hosted at the beautiful Café Koi, this will be a playfully MC’d event featuring people from the Calgary community speaking confidently about their psychedelic experience. There will also be ambient, downtempo, dreamy music and visuals throughout the night, with lots of space to generate discussion and build community.

This will also be the official book launch of Decomposing the Shadow: Lessons From the Psilocybin Mushroom and a portion of the proceeds will go towards the author’s summer 2013 book tour. It is also the book release day and copies will be available in house.

We live in a culture that inspires ignorance and stigma in the masses. There are few examples of this greater then that of psychedelic substances. There has been a massive indoctrination regarding psychedelics, the result of which is that a practice as old as humanity itself—ritual with sacred plants—has been trivialized. Awareness of the power these substances can have in healing us of deep-seated psychological and emotional wounds, regenerate the wonder for life, and vastly expand self-awareness is emerging. Yet because of the stigma that surrounds psychedelics, this emerging understanding of their potential is only discussed behind closed doors.

The healing power of psychedelic substances may be more important now then they have ever been and while they remain hidden on the fringe of society, their potential for society at large lay dormant. Nothing ever changes if no one choses to make a confidant stand for something they believe in. It is time that a mature discussion regarding the implications of psychedelics is brought to the public sphere. In doing so we can help shift ignorance into understanding, stigma into objectivity, and shame into confidence
