the end of the world, my foot! Exhibition 1.1

You must have heard it a hundred times by now: according to the ancient Maya calendar the End of Time is scheduled for December 21st, 2012.

Fortunately (or unfortunately, for those who were hoping to avoid holiday shopping) this popular belief is based on a misinterpretation of the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar!

December 21, 2012 is simply the day that the calendar will go to the next b'ak'tun, at Long Count 13.0.0.0.0.

The date on which the calendar will go to the next piktun (a complete series of 20 b'ak'tuns), at Long Count 1.0.0.0.0.0, will be on October 13, 4772.

That gives us another 2760 years!!!

You'll see, on Saturday the 22nd, instead of there being nothing left of the world... there will still be everything!

So let's visit The Museum of Everything!
