Exploration of Toltec Mounds Archeological State Park (w/2 walks)

http://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/a/a/8/e/event_121303662.jpegWe're going to head east to Scott, Arkansas, about 20 minutes from downtown Little Rock, and into the Arkansas delta, where there's a cool archeological site called Toltec Mounds dated from circa 600 to 1050 A.D. in time.
It is interesting. And it's inexpensive (from free to $3/guided tour, and with an option for a canoe rental for $10*). And it's a nearby place I've personally not yet explored.
Facilities include a visitor center with exhibits, A/V theater and archeological research laboratory. Toltec Mounds Archeological State Park near Scott (Pulaski County) is one of Arkansas’s most significant pre-European archaeological sites. Toltec, site of the state’s tallest Indian mounds, is also a National Historic Landmark.
TIMING and CHOICES:
Meet at Visitor Center between 9:15-9:30 a-m. We'll stay awhile, see whether participants would prefer a $3 accompanied tour with a interpretive ranger, or whether we want to just amble along on the two trails at our own pace at no charge... you can choose either, but I will be prepared to go with the ranger so I will bring $3.
If anyone wants to investigate a canoe ride, it's possible, but I would suggest phoning ahead to check on availability. It's $10 for 1 hour*, or $20 for a half day. It will be warm weather, so I will not likely be leading this part this time, but might do it as a separate meetup activity some other time if it looks like fun.

Bring good walking shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat. Camera. Snacks if you like. Drinks (non-alcoholic), if you like. A little cash just in case. I discourage bringing your pet due to heat, and that they would have to stay outdoors, and you might want to eat afterwards, but if you DO bring a pet, bring leash & poop pickup supplies, and plenty of water and a bowl.
DIRECTIONS FROM LITTLE ROCK:
From Little Rock, take Exit # 7 off I-440
and go nine miles southeast on U.S. 165.

AFTERWARDS:
See separate meetup for an 'eat-up' in the town of Scott's original Cotham's location, the home of the hub cap burger, to start at 12 noon Saturday (OPTIONAL). Feel free to do either, or both, meetups. BUT PLEASE RSVP so I'll know what you're thinking about at this point. :)
