Inter-PI league? (...have your say!)

Dear All

With the onset of the Olympics and in the spirit of friendly competition we are going to try and run a "just-for-fun" 12 week inter-club league (during May-Jul?) mixed in with our normal Sunday session.

If all goes well, we'll round it off with an end of season tournament, come August-ish (or as soon as Frank awakens from hibernation and gets things sorted). :-)

How will this just-for-fun league work?
- Tbh,...not yet sure/decided. Will welcome any suggestions!

I was thinking it might go something like this:-

1) All members will automatically qualify for this league. :-)
2) Whether you play a normal game or a league game is entirely up to you.
3) League games shall be based upon mixed or level doubles.
4) For a league game to count, you must partner someone new each time.
5) Everyone starts with nil points.
6) You get a point for each league game you win.
7) Double points if you win over opponents that include someone at the top of the league.
8) Triple points if your winning team includes someone at the bottom of the league.
9) A bonus point for making Frank move during the game.
10) You record your wins in the League book each week. I'll tally up and publish a running list online.

Prizes for league topping three by the end of the 12 weeks.
Prizes for most improved, and most bizarre mid-air posture / facial expression.

How does that sound?

L.

Inter-PI league, sounds Great Loc! Excellent idea and suggestions!

Suggestion

Each team consist of 6 players selected from a hat (3 men and 3 women)
- 2 Beginners
- 2 Intermediate
- 2 Advance

Games will be

- Mixed double
- men double
- women double

Games classified into

- beginner game
- beginner/intermediate game
- intermediate game
- intermediate/advance game
- advance game

Bonus points

- Making your opponent topple over to save a shot biggrin
- Smashing into your opponent cool
- Making your opponent really run and stretch tongue

There is a captain for each team who will decide on the strategy and who will play in each game. Winning team gets a mini prize and all player scores tally up for each player at the end. More prizes to follow for

- 3 league topping players
- The most flukey player
- Encouragement prize for the last 3 bottom set players
- Player who sweat the most wink
- Fastest moving player
- Slowest player
- Funniest player
- Acrobatic player (Have you seen the guy on youtube do a cart wheel and save a shot biggrin)
- Most crafty player shock

Just a few thoughts .....

Hey L,

I've mentioned this to G and we'll see if we run one and then have a tourny between the two groups at the end for the top contenders. Problem is, we share members so we might get a chance to watch Little Dan hit the shuttle from one side of the court, run to the other side and hit it back. He'll be playing against himself. LOL!

I'll let you know what G says.

Thanks for the suggestions. Definitely food for thought. Anycase keen on simple mechanisms and where ever poss self propelling without too much organization.

Feedback has been good. We may very well have a three way tourney. ;-)

Certainly an interesting idea

However,

"4) For a league game to count, you must partner someone new each time."

As you noticed last week, once a game ended, about 25 people including myself would run to the court to get a chance to play! How will it be possible to partner up with someone new each time?

"10) You record your wins in the League book each week."
This way you know I'm gonna be the winner in each single week!

Other issues:
- Not everyone turns up every week
- Not everyone turns up on time
- Not everyone wants to play a league game
- As there are only 4 courts and 28 players, not everyone will get equal chance for playing.

I think those wanting to participate should signup in advance, and know who they will be playing against.

That's just my opinion.. Okay I better get something to eat now

Thanks. All pertinent questions.

Regards partnering someone new each time, you will have the interval between games to organize yourselves :-)

Recording winnings in the league book will work based upon trust and honesty. I know I can trust you Amin. ;-)

Those attending on time and or most regularly have a slightly better chance of doing well in the league. League play is not mandatory. For those not wishing to participate, it'll be business as usual.

So that everyone gets equal court time, would ask that all attendees continue to exercise consideration and not hog courts.

It's just for fun, so don't want to make it too formal.

Part of the fun will be in our attempts to organize ourselves. :-p
