Do you think atheists groups can alter public opinions of non-theism?

Yes, but doing so will be a long and slow process.

What do you hope to find in a group of freethinkers?

A social environment with people who have better than average critical thinking skills.

Are you open with your atheism and how did your family and friends respond when you told them?

I've only told a couple people I knew who indicated that they think the same way. They were very cool about it. I'm really not sure if most of my family would react in a favorable manner.

When did you realize you were atheist?

My thinking really crystallized on this over the past two years or so but I really haven't been any kind of real theist in a long time. Something that really helped out was reading a number of blogs and websites about skeptical thinking and atheism.

It would be great sharing ideas with reality-based thinkers.
