Studio Lighting Essentials

This is a great class for beginners and a good refresher course for the more advanced.

Studio Lighting Essentials is a workshop dedicated to helping people learn light. This workshop is devoted to teaching lighting set ups used mainly in the fashion, editorial, beauty, and portrait world of photography; however, these lighting techniques can and often are applied to other types of photography. This workshop will be BIG on information. You will come away with a greater knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of studio lighting.

This workshop will include instruction as well as hands on application of what you have learned.

You will be immersed in lighting, setup, application, and technique.

Come out and truly learn to "SEE" The Light.

Our only limitation will be on time. The number of attendees will determine the length of the event. Plan on about an hour or so of lecture and set up time followed by a brief lighting application, quiz, and shoot session per person. Once we have made a full rotation through all the shooters, we will have a final Q&A session and call it a night.

Side Note: The location will be determined by the number of attendees. If the group gets too big, then we will move to a larger location.

Items to bring:

DSLR Camera (Sony camera users should call or email ahead and discuss options)

Something to take notes with.

We will have lighting equipment and radio transmitters on hand for you to use. If you happen to own a pocket wizard or light meter, feel free to bring them with you. We will have extras on site to share also.

Remember that this is designed to be a learning experience, this is not designed to be a shoot out nor a multi-look shoot. We will be practicing various lighting techniques and set up using each other as the subject or model. We might even have a model volunteer to come be a guinea pig for the evening. ;)

Paramount Lighting

Rembrandt Lighting

Loop Lighting

Split Side Lighting

Rim Lighting

Multi-Light Set Ups
