Whether you are a seasoned veteran of the trails, or just starting out, FW&B MTB might be for you.
Our primary purpose is to have a means of networking with other mountain bikers to get out & ride. Please read this carefully.: We are a group of mountain bikers of all skill levels who are interested in riding OFF of the pavement, usually with a significant amount of "singletrack" riding, which, for those who are not familiar yet, is basically like riding on a hiking trail...some terrain is fairly smooth, some more technical, and usually there are some hills. We ride actual mountain bikes, with fat knobby tires, and almost always at least a front suspension fork...not road bikes, not hybrid bikes. Most members over the age of 18 are given the option to organize/lead rides. Anyone who posts a ride agrees to describe the ride in detail, (SKILL LEVEL, pace, approx. duration, terrain, etc.) so others can decide if it's a ride they want to do. On occasion, a more seasoned rider may organize a ride for beginners or lower level riders, to help show them around the trails, and encourage their development. Also on occasion we may organize a trip out of the area, special event, or an educational event, but otherwise we are not normally providing any actual training.
Anyone can make suggestions for rides, or post discussions, questions, etc. on the topic of mountain biking, in the DISCUSSIONS section. Skill level posted for each ride is the minimum level one should have to participate. Some areas we'll explore:
Collis P. Huntington SP: Redding/Bethel/Newtown, CT
Mianus River Park: Stamford, CT
Pequonnock River Valley: Trumbull, CT
Stewart State Forest: Newburgh, NY
909: Pleasant Valley, NY
Blue Mountain, Sprain Ridge, Graham Hills: Westchester, NY
Various other riding areas in Fairfield, Westchester and beyond!
** All rides are 100% at your own risk (helmet required), no one else in the meetup group is responsible or liable for any injury which may occur during the rides.
This is technically considered an extreme sport! Minor injuries are fairly common, and more serious injuries do happen sometimes. Ride safe, within your own limits and have fun!
