FNS Book Club "Extra-Curricular Events"

Tracey C
Group Organizer
Chicago, IL
Hi everyone!

First off, happy 6 month anniversary to the FNS Book Club! ( What is the gift for the six month anniversary??) Thanks to everyone who has helped make it work thus far. I'm looking forward to many more months ahead.

Many of you know that I organized and ran a book club down in Nashville which is still up and running strong. Given the success of that group, I wanted to pull some of what I did down there in to this one.  Aside from the monthly book meetups, I also organized a number of other "lit focused" events such as a pot luck dinner where everyone brought a dish inspired by their favorite book (I can tell that you get a very interesting mix of food), a trip to see Shakespeare in the Park, and different readings around the city.

Chicago, and more specifically, the far northside up in to Rogers Park and Evanston are teeming with wonderful literary events and I wanted to throw a few out there to gauge interest before I start putting events on the calendar.

Some of the possibilities are:

This Much is True- a free event upstairs at Hopleaf in Andersonville. They have multiple dates on the calendar and the concept is pretty interesting.

Tuesday Funk- a free event at Hopleaf in Andersonville. Multiple dates with the next one on February 1st.

Essay Fiesta- a free event (although nominal donations are always welcome) the third Monday of every month at The Book Cellar in Lincoln Square. Their mission is to, "bring together a cross-section of Chicago's art and writing communities for a night of first-person, non-fiction essays."

2nd Story- Storytelling in Chicago ("a hybrid performance event combining storytelling, wine, and music") This one is in locations all over Chicago and they're constantly adding dates with the next one being the 29th of January in Evanston)

These are just a few of the possibilities. If anyone has any to add, please email me. If you have an interest in attending these, and think it might be a fun extra-curricular outing for the FNS book club, please drop me a line and I'll start putting these out on the calendar.

Thanks all!
