SEX TRAFFICKING OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN: A GLOBAL CRISIS
with DR. HOLLY ATKINSON

Presentation: 15-minute documentary giving an overview of the problem, then Dr. Holly G. Atkinson will speak briefly explaining how the modern sex slavery industry works and the consequences for millions of women and children.

In the wake of Rev. Galen Guengerich’s December sermon about the growing problem of sex trafficking both in the U.S. and abroad, Dr. Holly G. Atkinson, member of All Souls and immediate Past President of Physicians for Human Rights (and Galen’s wife), is following up with an introductory session on this horrendous practice. She will show a 15-minute documentary that gives an overview of the problem, then speak briefly to lay out the basics of how the modern sex slavery industry works and the consequences for millions of women and children. The entire group will then engage in the first of several planning discussions on how the church can best respond to this crisis.

Dr. Holly G. Atkinson is Assistant Professor of Medicine and co-director of the Advancing Idealism in Medicine program at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, and Assistant Professor of Public Health at Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York City. She is Chief Medical Officer of HealthiNation, Inc. and immediate Past President of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning Physicians for Human Rights, a non-profit that mobilizes health professionals and other concerned citizens to advance health, dignity, and justice. Dr. Atkinson is also faculty advisor to the Weill Cornell Center for Human Rights and especially interested in the intersection of health and human rights as it applies to advancing the well-being of women and girls.
