Screening of "Design & Thinking" and 5 years of Fire On The Bay!

  • Adobe San Francisco

Fire On The Bay is 5 years old in October.

I am working with Onward Search for a special Design focused event to celebrate.

Thank you all who have been attending since October 2007!

A whole lot has happened since then but it has been the same 3 guys on the leadership team that have been working on this group since the beginning, but this group is not about them, it is about you. So as a thank you we are working on something that we haven't done before but we want to make sure you get it on your calendar now so you don't miss it!

Due to the special nature of this event, it will not be broadcast online, however San Francisco is wonderful in october, and it will be a great excuse to visit.

Here is the announcement, we will be screening "Design & Thinking"

"Design & Thinking" is a documentary exploring the idea of "design thinking"!

It will be one of the very few documentaries on design, and certainly the first about the impact design thinking has on the world.

Design Thinking was applied as a term and methodology by a design firm in 2008. It was received as a tool to solve every problem, from daily life decisions to business challenges to world hunger problems. Attention and debates followed; some insisted on design education in all K-12 schools, some declared it is just marketing tool for that firm, some hoped it would turn his company into Apple. Some said it's nothing new, just a new packaging of how creative people do things.

Great event, thank you for arranging and of course creating a motivating film for everyone involved in industrial and venture design.

I think the film is quite inspiring and opens the opportunity for me to gain insights from various disciplines that relate to design thinking and problem solving. But I feel like the interviews can go deeper and tie together more solidly in order to engage viewers.

It was a nice film preseentation. As Eugene Kardash says, having people from multiple disciplines discussing design thinking (DT) was good as this serves to broaden the conversation and move away from DT being encapsulated in just the design disciplines.

Thanks for the movie night! It's a great movie, generalizing user experience and design itself, not that much about software design. I think the format of interviewing people from completely different industries; entrepreneurs, teachers and innovators, they all bring their perspective, contributing to the main idea.
I wish more people show up tonight.

I'm with the SF chapter of IDSA, and we're also going to be showing this film! The official promo isn't out yet, but it will be Wednesday, October 3rd, at the CCA theatre. We will likely have a small fee (maybe $5) for a wine/beer reception beforehand. After the movie, we are going to have a Q+A panel with some of the designers (People from Jump Associates, IDEO, Smart, and maybe New Deal Design.) The details are being smoothed out now, but as soon as it's confirmed, I will post here. I'm glad you guys are showing this movie too!
