Getting Started with FirefoxOS

Hello FoxFans!

I am happy to announce our next event is going to be all about getting hands on with FireFoxOS and hopefully making something!

We'll have experts from Mozilla and Telefonica on hand to show you how to get started with making your first FireFoxOS application.

We don't have much time so you need to ensure that you come ready to code so make sure you have everything on the list sorted :)

  • A Laptop (or portable development device)
  • Your chosen IDE/Text editor
  • FirefoxOS simulator
  • Developer tools
  • A local webserver
  • A passion for making the web a better place!

See you there!

Very useful meeting for me - I am looking at using smartphones in academic research and the price/functionality seems ideal. If anyone else there is involved in academic research I'd be interested in talking to you.

Thanks for coming yesterday everyone, I hope you all had a good time and learnt something :) If you managed to get an app up and running, don't be shy! Share it with the group!

Good introduction, but it was really short in time. Glad that I came.

This was a simple, low-key practical event where we learnt the basics of how to deploy apps to the Firefox OS simulator. Thanks to all concerned for making the event happen.

Since our work Christmas thing turns out to be today, I won't be able to come :( Bit of a bummer because I made a pretty basic app. If anyone wants to have a look, point your OS emulator at it here:

    Thanks! :)

Will there be refreshments or do we need to bring something or eat before?

We will have plenty of drinks and some snacks to keep people going, there are also lots of food places in the area if you want to bring some food to the space with you :)

Just a final reminder, to get a head start on the session tomorrow be sure to come with:

    * Your text editor of choice
    * A local web server
    * Firefox Nightly and the Firefox OS Simulator extension

We can help you with these if you need it.

If you're interested in trying out some of the privileged APIs (or anyone else who hasn't already installed the extension) I recommend you install a special version of the Firefox OS Simulator extension we have prepared especially for this event which has some magic to add the necessary permissions.

I am not a coder though I am interested in Firefox OS deployed in a set top box environment.
