THE 45TH ANNIVERSARY
OF THE LEGENDARY CONCERT AT TOWN HALL
Town Hall was the setting of the legendary dual concert of America’s leading cabaret performers, the great international club and recording artist Mabel Mercer and the reigning prince of cabaret Bobby Short.
The pairing of sophisticated cabaret singers of two generations on May 19, 1968, was an inspired idea on the part of promoter George Wein, and a great choice for a double-LP release by Atlantic Records. The result was a stylish musical evening that harked back decades in New York society and night- life, but managed to seem utterly contemporary.
The Mabel Mercer Foundation will present a lineup of today’s leading practitioners of the intimate and enduring art of cabaret in a tribute to these great artists featuring: Joyce Breach, Eric Comstock, Natalie Douglas, Barbara Fasano, Lauren Fox, Eric Yves Garcia, Clint Holmes, Tanya Holt, Andrea Marcovicci, Karen Mason, Marissa Mulder, Karen Oberlin, Rex Reed, Lumiri Tubo, Tamara Tunie, Iris Williams, Larry Woodward. Hosted by KT Sullivan.
The artists will interpret songs from the Mabel/ Bobby songbook including Here’s To Us, Looking At You, Remind Me, Down In The Depths On The 90th Floor, The Folks Who Live On The Hill, I’m Throwing A Ball Tonight, These Foolish Things, Both Sides Now, Bojangles Of Harlem, and Time Heals Everything.
