As we all know, the military life can be strenuous and difficult, especially at times of deployment. As a military spouse and sibling, I’m aware of the different resources the military has for these families. However, a small number of us are still not entirely being accommodated. There are plenty of support groups whose aim is to console the spouses and other family members that are left behind while their loved ones are deployed, but they all tend to rely on their religious practices. The local support groups on and off post, though well meaning, tend to focus a lot (if not entirely) on spirituality. As freethinkers, it’s difficult for us to find things like prayer, or bible study sessions, helpful in these situations. It’s logical that, even though we know his or her intentions may be good, someone encouraging us to pray is not necessarily consoling. So I’m creating this group in hopes that those other wives, family members, or soldiers, who are in the same situation will have a place to vent and discuss their worries without the need for prayer. Conversing with like-minded people in the same situation can be helpful and I hope it can do the same for others during deployment.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
