This earth science nut loved cruising Mt. Lassen, the redwood and pine trees, Mt. Shasta, the street festival, Oregon Caves, food, fun and friends -- and everything in between! Thanks to all for your personal support, too.

Just got home to Santa Cruz. I had a great time and the company was great. Glad I went along and made new friends. Beautiful ride home along the coast. Stayed over night in Valley Ford just south of Bodega Bay. Highly recommend Valley Ford Hotel. 6 room hotel upstairs, great restaurant and bar downstairs. Restaurant is called Rockers Oysterfeller's and yes they have great oysters. Good music there too. Had a blast. Sorry Karen no wifi or cell service there, but well worth the inconvenience.
Thanks again to Shelley and Milo for pulling the trip together.

Good ride, all 1400 miles of it. Had good company and had more than enough to eat. Not everyone can say they closed down Samoa Cookhouse, but we did. We saw lots, but there was more to see, not enough time for everything.

Motorcycle adventure touring is the best way to see the country. Doing it with friends makes it even better. Mt Lassen was refreshing, Hiking to 8000 feet on Mt Shasta was grand… even though we rode to 7500 feet, but the Oregon cave was new to me. Most caves I have been in were made of lime stone, lava, or sand stone, this one was Marble. Thanks to everyone who attended, I had a great time.

All the planning and effort it takes to plan this trip was well worth it! I loved the Oregon Cave National Monument- I loved everything we did! I enjoyed meeting our newest member Brian and the camaraderie we had among the six that made this trip. My only complaint would be that it went too fast! Thank you again Milo and Shelley for more wonderful memories and Don thank you for being the best pilot!!!

Cleared my schedule & booked my rooms. I'll be splitting off after Arcata and taking Hwy 1 back, staying in Bodega Bay Sunday night. Looking forward to meeting new friends and a lot of fun miles.

Welcome. It sounds like you're good since you have the rooms booked. A BMW RT is also a great bike for a five day ride. I'll be adding details to the route soon.

      June 28, 2013

  • Brian

If it is not too late, I'm thinking a about joining the trip. It would be my first with this group. My bike (RT) is being serviced for its 24k serviced on 7/2/13. I have lots of experience, so no worries there. Just need to check hotel room availability and make sure I can take a few days off work. I'm thinking about returning down hwy 1 rather than 101 if that is ok. Did a similar trip last year in the opposite direction although camped most nights. Let me know if this sounds ok.

Ever thought of doing the eastern side of the Sierra's? Great riding, lots to see and do, from Hot springs to Ghost towns, mines . . also a good place to stay is the Virgina Creek settlement, they have motel to camping accommodations to cover almost any budget. http://www.virginiacreeksettlement.com/

And petroglyphs out of Bishop for those who don't mind riding a dirt road.

It sounded good but they are at capacity the 3rd through the 6th

Add a meet spot in Pleasanton or Livermore. This is a nice loop. I've done all these roads.

I'd say 1st night in Reno. (This works well with a hike on the way in Yosemite Valley.

I'd recommend a lunch stop at Mountain View BBQ, located on Hwy 395 in Walker, CA.

    May 21, 2013

    • Milo

It has good reviews and it's on the way. We will try to make it a lunch stop.

Have you considered Crater Lake? We went by there in September on our way to Washington. Thought it would be a great 3-4 day ride. Possible route: over Sierra to 395. Up thru Anderson? Lakes area to Klamath falls. 1 day loop to crater Lake. Then home via coast/redwoods?
