Introduction to Shambhala Buddhism

Details

Shambhala vision is rooted in the principle that every human being has a fundamental nature of basic goodness. This nature can be developed in daily life so that it radiates out to family, friends, community and society. Shambhala vision tells us that we can experience a natural source of radiance and brilliance in the world, which is the innate wakefulness of human beings.

Core to Shambhala vision is the practice of meditation. Meditation is a natural state of the human mind—at rest, open, alert. Undertaken as a steady practice, meditation allows the mind to relax and settle. It encourages our inherent qualities of stability, clarity and mental strength to emerge and allow us to overcome obstacles to recognizing our inherent basic good. In this workshop we will be introduced into the basic practice of meditation followed a talk and discussion. The workshop will be led by Tom Semmes, a local artist and a student of Shambhala Buddhism since 1989.
