A novel set in Edwardian Scotland. There is a mystery wrapped up in the politics of the time, and the heroine is finding her way, politically, socially, and for the first time, independently.
I've been a creative writer since high school, but always short stories and snippets of memoir. I wrote a novella in college and enjoyed some objective success in creative writing courses in college. But I have been stymied by perfectionism and have never even tried to get something --anything-- published, outside my own blog.
A community of supportive writers who will allow me to grow and learn from their techniques and voices, while helping me sharpen my own. Perhaps most importantly, I want a place where I can feel real. Where I can talk to writers about my writing and have someone understand. Where I can learn what I can improve and hear where I am touching others' hearts and minds. I need to be around other writers if I'm ever really to make it happen, and I really want to make it happen.
I'm a besotted wife, mom of 3 unruly lovelies and an ethics lawyer. I am finally astride my first serious attempt at a novel, at the mercy of characters who are increasingly frustrated with me. I am longing for a writers' community.
I really enjoy this writers' group so far. There is great diversity among the writers in style, interests and substance. Jessica does a very good job of organizing and steering the group, and the workshopping/critiquing has been very helpful so far. I am looking forward to reading more of what everyone has to offer.
