Free: Volunteer at "Salsa in the Park" in the South End

Salsa in the Park ( (SITP) is a wonderful event that takes place every Monday, rain or shine, through the end of August. Sponsored by Mayor Menino and the City of Boston, it is a program to promote public health and build community through the magic of dance.

But it takes a lot of work to make the event happen each week, so please volunteer your time to help do so.

Please contact Nathan to sign up:  [masked].

The schedule:

4:00-4:15pm - Meet your fellow volunteers and the SITP staff.

4:15-5:55pm - Train and set up for the dancing!

6:00-9:00pm - Attend the event, possibly man a table or dance with people looking for a partner.

9:00-9:30pm - Break down and clean up.

Please note that helping with this event has its perks! As part of the event, there is a free Salsa lesson from 6:00-6:30pm, and another from 7:15-7:45pm. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in these lessons!

Also, if we finish setting up early enough, the MetaMovents dance staff (led by the fearless Anara and Nathan!) often give us volunteers yet another lesson before showtime at 6!

So please help out in this worthy (and clearly worthwhile) cause!

If you cannot volunteer for the whole 4:00-9:30 shift, please post below what block of time you can volunteer. Otherwise, please show up at 4pm. And please do contact Nathan to sign up: [masked] and let him know when you're volunteering.

And, as always, please keep your RSVP up to date. This is a volunteerism event, so I will be keeping an eye out for no-shows.

Thanks for helping out!

  2. Silver Line (Washington St line): Get off at the Newton St. stop. You will be on Washington St. If you were coming from Dudley and towards Boylston, you will continue in the direction the bus is going for one more block, and take a left at W. Brookline; walk down and the basketball courts, center & park are on your right. If you were coming from Boylston and towards Dudley, you will walk back one block, and take a left on W. Brookline as described above.
  3. Take Bus #1 down Mass Ave. (from Harvard or Central Squares). Get off at Washington St, and take a left (heading towards downtown, away from Roxbury). Continue to W. Brookline St., and take a left; walk down and the basketball courts, center & park are on your right.
