Details
THIS IS IT! THE MORNING OF THE RIDE! ARE WE READY TO ROLL???? SEE YOU IN THE WIND!
CURRENTLY PLANNING TO RUN WITH V.3 BELOW FOR LUNCH STOP AND TO SAFELY ACCOMODATE THE MASSIVE TURNOUT FOR THIS RIDE. IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, WE CAN ADDRESS THEM AT THE VALERO BEFORE WE RIDE OUT.
>>>> V.3 RIDE COURSE: http://goo.gl/maps/DeHf <<<<
Come on out and let's make a Piney Woods Run!
Meet at the Valero in Baytown (1600 S HWY 146 - BUSINESS 146 AT LEE ROAD) at 9:00 am. KSU about 9:30.
BREAK OUT THE SUNTAN LOTION FOR THIS ONE! And remember, if anyone needs to make a stop along the way, SPEAK UP! It's a long ride, let's have fun riding it.
THIS ROUTE IS FLEXIBLE! THERE ARE SEVERAL MAPS BELOW FOR A FEW DIFFERENT ROUTES. Depending on everyone's needs - food, restrooms, fuel, etc) If we go through Ace, there is a park with decent restrooms we can stop at. This is about mid point of the ride.
PINEY WOODS RUN V.1 - 177 Miles >> http://g.co/maps/n9bmg << (GOOD FOR SMALL GROUP) This ride is approximately 177 miles long, going through Baytown, Cove, Old River-Winfree, Dayton, Kenefick, Tarkington Prairie, Romayor, Ace, Segno, Votaw, Saratoga (home of Bragg's Road), Batson, Daisetta, Ames, Liberty, and Wallisville... then across the Trinity River bridge on I-10 to Cove, and back down 565 through Baytown to the end destination at Pelican Junction to unwind. Great cruising roads out in the woods of southeast Texas.
NOTE: I was just informed that "The Ranch Hand Cafe" is closed on Sunday, so we will be falling back to the stop at Romayor Grocery for Lunch, and there will also be sandwich makings in the Chase Car. We can stop at the Ace Park and eat if this is agreeable.
PINEY WOODS RUN V.3- 173 Miles: http://goo.gl/maps/DeHf Due to the awesome turnout for this ride, this version contains a minor reroute to take in 146 North from the Valero to get us out of Baytown as a group, then allows us to return to our route once we are away from the city. We will be leaving the Valero going south, then a slight turn onto 146 North through Baytown and Mt. Belview, and returning to our ride course at Dayton. Other than that, the ride is basically the same for the remainder of the course. I hope this change is agreeable with everyone, and I thank you all for your patience and flexibility!
If this run goes good, we can always build on it and have a repeat run in the future for those that can't make it.
Most of us are off on Monday, May 28th for Memorial Day, so lets ride on Sunday and rest on Monday!
It's ALL about the ride! See you in the wind!
SAFETY NOTE - REMEMBER: We WILL be riding on some country roads and out through some forest areas. WATCH FOR DEER AND OTHER ANIMALS THAT MAY RUN OUT IN FRONT OF YOU! And watch for local bears - they sometimes have a costly bite to the wallet!
Also, for everyone's convenience, we WILL have a chase car following for personal belongings, refreshments, or whatever else you may wish to bring along. There will be radio comms between the LEAD, TAIL, and CHASE CAR, so if anyone needs to stop, simply drop back and signal to the TAIL or CHASE CAR and we will accomodate you. This should help us all stay together along the route.
REFERENCE:
(UPDATE: If we make this run through Segno, I am NOT responsible if the Sasquatch carries any of you off! I mean, Sasquatch HAS been reported in this neck of the woods! >>> http://www.texasbigfoot.com/reports/report/county?county=Polk&state=TX <<<)
