Propaganda at Panera

Propaganda is defined as information, ideas, or rumors deliberately spread widely to help or harm a person, group, movement, institution, nation, etc.

I want each member attending to identify at least one instance of propaganda they have knowingly observed at some point in her or his life. I want you to describe what you perceive to be the end goal of the propaganda and determine how it affected you. What was the purpose of the propaganda? Was it to help, harm, or both? What was the target audience? From where did the propaganda originate, family, friends, news media, internet, government, educational institution? How did it make you feel, and why did it make you feel that way?

As a second assignment, if you had to write a propaganda campaign, how would you do it? What would be your target group, person, movement, institution, etc.? Would you be for it or against it? What ideas would you spread? Would you be direct or subtle, and why? What would be your end goal?

The purpose of these assignments is to get you more aware of the propaganda all around you. By trying to create your own propaganda campaign, you get a sense for how others are created against you.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Finally, regarding nuclear events and radiation damage, please view this excellent video from Phil Mason, a PhD chemist discussing the event and dangers of exposure to radioactive materials:

Regarding 911 conspiracy: Please refer to this video series produced by a British PhD Chemist. He also has an interview with a former "911 truther" as well as a series in progress regarding AIDS denialists. All are worth a watch, and we can discuss the science of HIV/AIDs or, to a lesser extent given my lack of engineering background, the physics behind 911 conspiracy claims.

Regarding the conversation on vaccinations, I will present the case for them next month given evidence of efficacy and evidence of harms. In the meantime, This video made by Penn and Teller on their Bullshit TV program is a humorous illustration of the reality of vaccinations - that is overwhelming benefit with a paucity of harm.
