Our first book will be New Deal or Raw Deal by Hillsdale professor and YAF lecturer Dr. Burt Folsom.  This is a fascinating book that includes everything you didn't learn from your liberal professor about the New Deal and FDR.

Please come prepared to discuss roughly the first third (roughly) of the book by Saturday, January 11.  (If you haven't started or had time to read it, please come anyway!)

TBD: Dinner afterwards

*Members can bring ideas for future books -- they will be decided by the group. I just chose the first book to get the club rolling.

Sorry. I was looking forward to meeting you all. Today happens to be my son's last day before he has to go back to college. We decided it would be best to do something as a family -- I suggested we could all go to the book club meeting :) - but playing board games and going out to dinner was met with more enthusiasm. See you next time, Sigrid

I just moved to the area, I have not read the book yet. But would still like to attend the discussion.

I hope we can come up with a definition of 'freedom' that we can all agree on. I believe that there is a general confusion on the definition and without clarity, it is hard to rally the troops.

Hi Larry, this club will just be focused on general freedom and general conservatism. It's open to everyone though (libertarians, traditional conservatives, and just people wanting to learn more). We won't have to define terms to limit the group's mission. I would say freedom as what is granted us to by God, the freedom to pursue our own destiny, to enjoy the fruits of our labor, to acquire private property and the freedom to defend ourselves.

Freedom from government intrusion and interference. Not freedom how liberals define freedom, but how conservatives do.
