It's hard to find like-minded people in an ultra-conservative area like Colorado Springs. The Freethinkers offer an opportunity to do that, plus, since Fred is a rabble rouser at heart and enjoys doing such things as writing letters to the editor, he hopes to have opportunities to participate in actions directed at the preservation of church-state separation.
Fred was raised in a half Jewish, half Catholic home where religion was not emphasized, so when he discovered that there was no more evidence for the existence of God or Christ than there was for that of Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy, it came as no surprise.
Fred frequently writes letters to the editors of both the "Gazette" and the "Independent" -- the Indy publishes them sometimes, the Gazette hardly ever. He has participated in many demonstrations, for example, on behalf of the "Occupy" movement, at a local Congressman's office, etc. And he enjoys his work on the Freethinkers' newsletter. He would enjoy more community involvement.
Fred has been a member of the Freethinkers for more than a decade and, for the last few years, has also been on the board of directors. Since 2004, Fred has compiled, printed, and distributed the group's monthly newsletter.
